The price realised when equipment must be sold immediately — typically at public auction — with minimal marketing time and no negotiation.
Forced Liquidation Value (FLV) is the lowest of the three principal value standards. It reflects real-world auction outcomes when a creditor seizes assets, a bankruptcy court orders a sale, or a plant closure requires rapid disposal.
Characteristics of FLV conditions
FLV as a risk metric
Lenders sometimes calculate the FLV "haircut" — how much value could be lost in a worst-case seizure and disposal. A machine with FMV $500,000 and FLV $175,000 represents a 65% haircut: the lender recovers only 35 cents on the dollar in extremis.
